KCAI sculpture students volunteered their own time to assist in teaching iron-casting to students in Shawnee Mission West art department chair Rosie Riordens class.

KCAI students organized an iron-casting field trip for Oct. 2, 2009, when the high school students visited the KCAI campus for a workshop and iron-casting demonstration. KCAI students followed up with patina, cutting and writing workshops and compiled interviews on paper and video.

The project culminated Nov. 5 with an exhibition opening and artist talk at the high school. All of the students worked on installing the exhibition, which entailed framing and hanging the work, publicizing the event and shipping a 500-pound furnace into the exhibition space.
