Which is better: sand casting or die casting of an electric motor housing?

mass production
Sand casting allows higher temps casting for certain high temp alloys or steel that would fail in a diecast….so sand cast usually means a better product.

Die casting. Sand casting is often or usually a "once off" process, the mold being damaged or destroyed in removing the cast
Also, the cast in a die will not need to be sanded smooth or at least not sanded as much. Usually housing should be fairly smooth.

Both processes have been used but for electric motor housings in the 5-500hp range a sand cast is generally used .It leaves a small amount of easily removable residue at the DRAFT point and at the POUR point which is ground off…In using the Die Cast method the is a clam shell effect leak at the middline and removing this is more of a problem..Wax positives are formed from exacting silicone mold negatives and every time a product is made the wax is melted out well before the pour……From the E..
