It depends on how many you going to make. You must resize the ring in wax before you cast or in metal after. What I do when I have a style I’ll be making a lot of, I make one of each size in the wax from copies of the original, cast them and copy them to make rubber molds in all whole sizes (5,6,7,8,9,10). This allows me to make lots of rings in lots of sizes quickly. The downside is cost if your only making 2 or 3 copies.

yes that makes sense now. another query i cant find an answer for is if i design a ring how do i cast it in different ring sizes? would i need to alter the size of every ring a cast. thanks for your advice, your videos have been very helpful.

If you add the wax, then Vulcanize a mold there is a good chance you will melt the wax into the rubber and ruin the mold. You might consider something like a Silicon mold which cures at room temp.

hi, we are about to …
hi, we are about to go into casting our own jewellery, we have previously had jewellery cast out of house for us. we want to recast some of these item we designed but they will be smaller than our original. is there anyway to counter act this? would adding some wax to a piece of silver before it is vulcanised be ok? this would be to make a shank on a ring thicker for example. we dont want our old designs to be too thin.

The Process is to …
The Process is to make jewelry. It can also be used for various other applications. Machine prototype parts, Metal sculpture, etc. The first machine, the crock pot, doesn’t remove all of the wax. It just melts out the bulk of it. The second machine is for completely removing the wax and tempering the mold to accept the molten metal. Read the Info boxes for more specifics. Nice idea – thanks for your efforts. It would be helpful to have an overview of what you’re doing from the beginning. For instance – what is it that you’re making? There is no picture of the finished piece. It would be nice to see that at the start so that we know what the goal is.
Also, what are the various machines and costs? You put the piece into the crock pot to de wax it and then the furnace to dewax it? Why two steps? I’m out of room.
Great details, need overview.

One more thing, The rings usually cast at a smaller size than the wax so don’t forget to accommodate for this when making your rings for the molds. Good luck.
