I’d simply like to know if regular lunar regolith can be used in place of sand for casting on the moon. the regolith would be refined to exclude the larger particals. please provide a clear answer, and you will get a 5* best answer.

No, because lunar regolith differs greatly from regular terrestrial sand. Lunar regolith is mainly classified into two types, one from 100micron-40micron and the other below 40micron. Though both are very fine as the result of eons of bombardment by micrometeorites, the first is abrasive with jagged edges and form coatings over metallic or painted surfaces and inside machinery causes internal damage and wear. The latter is a subject to major electrostatic movement and are usually thrown up kilometers above the lunar surface in dust fountains at dawn and dusk. Both are extremely erosive. So they cannot be used in place of sand for sand casting of metals.
P.S. Basalt has the required potential which resists the erosive nature of lunar dust. Hence it is an ideal option for the establishment of structures on the moon, but never metals or concrete.

about 20" wide. and 3mm thick. 20"x20"
will the sand able to withstand and not collapse with that huge area?

not going to work, the problem is that the metal will freeze before it covers the entire area. Also I would think it’s not going to sound good. Getting metal to sounds "good" is an entire own branch of science, and I don’t know much about it except that I don’t think a 20" wide disk of equal thickness has any chance of giving you a pure sound.

If you want something which sounds good you either need to study a lot the theory behind it or pay for one which has been made by a company which paid somebody to figure all that out.

I’ve done actually an internship in a bell foundry and they have specific profiles for different bells. And after the bell is cast they still need to tune the bell on a lathe by carving away metal – and it matters a great deal where in the profile they carve it off. I think in the past they had just skilled people, but now they have a computer telling them where to shave off metal and how much.

If you just want something which makes a noise just get two cheap cooking pots from a thrift store and just use the lids. Or see whether you can find just a lid. Probably going to cost you only a few dollars.

This is Sculpture, so your question would be proper if it asked how to do sand casting for art purposes, but the page you reference shows products that are hardware (and ones that to my mind ought to forged and not sand cast at all) And you don’t say where you want to import them from or to.
And sand casting is neither new or especially modern.
Probably this needs to be posted in Engineering under Science and Mathematics.

The mould has to hard enough so that it takes a definite shape with proper dimensions. If its made brittle then there are possibilities that while handling these moulds it can break or it may not be able to withstand the weight of the fluid in it. So the hardness of mould is important up to a certain extent in casting process.

Im trying to take my wax mold of somthing and make it into aluminum, can i use concrete as the mold and pour aluminum in it or do i have to do it with sand?

Concrete will not serve as well for casting as silica sand.
It fuses at about 2700 F. so it will handle the temperature,
but it’s too fine and does tend to take up some water of hydration
from the air which might cause a problem flashing to vapor
on contact with the molten metal.
