The fill and feed system for this 30 lb. stainless steel casting was simulated at Alloy Casting Industries in New Hamburg, Ontario Canada. The window on the left shows the temperature profile during the pour. Top of the scale is 1600F, bottom of the scale is 1500F.
The window on the top right shows the liquid fraction – liquid metal in the mold.
The window on the bottom right shows shrinkage porosity.

How does one go about fixing a broken mold and/or pouring a mold?
What safety measures should be considered?
What should be done with a mold before you fill it with Zinc to ensure it doesn’t break?
Please keep in mind that I am an accountant, so I don’t know some technical terms.
well the lost wax method creates a sand casting of the product. there are lots of methods for casting using sand and aluminum or something similar. there are lots of different methods, and it depends on what you’re making and how it’s made.
as for safety. your dealing with hot metal. moisture is a problem it will spit molten metal if the metal comes in contact with water.
look at the link below and it will go into methods of molding.

I want to know how to create the mold, what type of metal i’ll need, provisions, ect. I’m planning on assembling a posable Marvel Universe Iron man made out of metal, but first i need to know how to do it. Even is it’s some form of a kit, i would be happy to know about that at least for starters. Thank You!
Check Smooth-On’s website. They sell silicone putty and RTV mold-making materials that can be used to cast low-melting temperature metals like pewter and bismuth alloys (Cerro type metals). They sell everything you need to duplicate a plastic figure in metal. That said, the process won’t be cheap for making an articulated metal figure. The mold making making materials are costly, and you need to have a vacuum pump and chamber, air compressor, pressure pot, and a variety of consumables like gloves, stirring sticks, disposable cups, clay for mold layup, etc.
The end results will resemble die-cast metal parts when done right.

I have an old ‘42 project car, and the trunk "Chevrolet" emblem is broken in half. I’m pretty sure that I can’t just weld it. Replacement parts are hard to come by. Does anyone know of any tricks or secrets that might help me? Thanks!
Check Powerblocktv.com. Saw a show a couple of weeks back ( rerun I think) where they did exactly what you need, repair, de-pit & rechrome. But, I’m not sure if it was Trucks! or Musclecar. Maybe the site can direct you to the company. Know one thing, ’twasn’t cheap, but, purdy when they got done!

Just a standard set of old, cast-iron, exterior steps leading from a rear elevated door to the ground – there are a few small areas, maybe 6" in diameter where the steps have rusted through. What’s the best way to safely and soundly patch or repair these areas?
They are not cast iron, and they need to be replaced. It doesn’t sound like you know how to weld or repair them…
sorry.

This is a question for people who are familiar with Graphic Design. If you haven’t been to college yet, don’t bother responding. Thanks.
It was the introduction of phototypesetting machines which made metal type obsolete. The earlier process of creating an entire finished page of metal simply to be photographed wasted considerable time and material. In the mid-twentieth century, new photographic and computer technology was used to create a method of setting type directly onto photographic plates, thus bypassing the metal casting stage entirely. Such systems of typesetting are called phototypesetting, or photocomposition.
