I’d cast my vote for trombone and trumpet as my fav.s. As for easiness, at least when starting out, I say trumpet.
What do you think?
My nephew loves brass, and will be starting band next year. I play trumpet and use to play trombone so I’m ‘biased’. He wants an unbiased opinion on what you would choose if you were in his position.
Thanks for you’re advice!
Trombone ftw.
It also depends on what kinds of parts you like and the range of notes. There are also different kinds of trombones. I myself play bass trombone and so I play low notes. Tenor plays higher notes.
If you don’t like Trombone, then how about the baritone. It’s like a trombone and a trumpet fused!
I have hung one already in my dining room and am interested in selling the other. I have been told they are about 1920 or 1930. They have a little girl and boy and are also shaded in areas with small touches of green red and blue. I can email pictures if anyone can help. I have searched ebay and can not find one even close to it. Thanks
If it’s a tiffany lamp, look at http://www.hoylelamps.com/Antique%20Lamps%20$%20130%20-%20149.htm to see if you recognize something similar.
You might be able to ask at the Antiques Roadshow forum at http://discussions.pbs.org/viewforum.pbs?f=109
At least some of the people there will know the kind of item you mean.
And there’s a place that deals specifically in antique lighting fixtures: http://lighting.oneofakindantiques.com/Lighting_2.htm
They also do appraisals: http://www.oneofakindantiques.com/appraisals.htm

You bolt the plate on cabinet door, then to open you pull the ring out. It is called "flush" because it doesn’t stick out until you pull it, ie. it is flush with the top of the ring.
I know what casting process and materials are used to make Gear Wheel blanks, but now I need to know why? Any help appreciated.
I understand thats of course it’s metals, but why these particular kind?
Also steel is used. I process used to make them (Centrifugal) stops corroding too
Because they work, and don’t corrode, and are easy to cast.
wood doesn’t cast too well
Jello does cast well, but it’s not very strong.
etc.

Just remember that plenty of metal bathroom fixtures will appear to be "cold" and the visual effect will be that of Roman aqueducts and too masculine.
I think that metallic accessories belong to the study and not the bathroom since they could get tarnished and appear shabby after a while from moisture or droplets of water.
If I will use a bathroom with lots of metallic things in it, I would probably start shivering already as I come in. "Its cccooooolld in here."
I have a cast brass, lifesize figure of a young male playing a small drum. Good intricate detailing in facial features, clothing and ornaments. Well matured with an even covering of real verdigris (not falsely sprayed on) aquired by outside weathering over many years. Your comments appreciated re: origin/ value, contact me for photo. Possibly for sale.
Can you find the makers mark anywhere on the piece? This would help you immensely with the identification process.
What I can suggest that you do is to take good clear photoghraphs of your piece, back, front, sides and any makers marks then go to http://photobucket.com/ or http://www.flickr.com/ for free.
Up load and post the photographs to show to one of the following reputable appraisers, should they ask you to submit them on line.
