What brand / type of paint should I use with Polyester Resin Castings?

March 16, 2010 - 4:16 am 1 Comment

I am using "Aristocrat Water Clear Polyester Casting Resin" to create some small charms / pendants for jewelry, but I don’t know whether or not I should be looking for certain types of paints for such a material.

Also, do I need any kind of sealant or primer before / after I paint the charms?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I don’t believe that colorant is usually painted on top of the cured surface of resins (polyester or epoxy resins), but resins can be colored while they’re still wet. You can buy the special colorants "soft for resins," or you can just use artists oil paints–those will be transparent unless you add white which actually makes any color opaque.

You shouldn’t need a sealer on the resin normally, but if cured resins can be painted you might need something that would give the surface a bit of tooth for the paint to hold onto.

Or you could try some of the "glass paints" … they may stick well enough, or perhaps you could paint on top of *those* when they dry?

You might want to check out some of the info, lessons, links, etc. about using polyester and epoxy resins for making small jewelry items, etc., too:

P.S. You can paint on top of polymer clay castings, etc., though, and on top of air-dry clays too. And you can also make molds from polymer clay or other materials, then cast polymer clay shapes in them and harden.
If you’re interested in those things, check out these pages at my site as well:

Here’s your chance to star in a big movie. We’ve got the open casting call info right now!

Hey everyone. Welcome back to Clevver TV. I’m Dana Ward here at our Beverly Hills studio with some info for those of you seeking stardom. If you’ve ever wanted to act alongside some of Hollywood’s best, this is your chance. Paramount Pictures is set to hold open castings for a 12 to 17 year old girl for the upcoming western film, True Grit. This is a lead role, people, for the movie and according to the TrueGritCasting.com site, “no experience necessary.”
If you’re interested in this audition, you’d be playing the 14-year-old Mattie a simple, tough character in the post-Civil War Arkansas. She sets off on a journey with 2 marshals to hunt her father’s killer. No word on who else the lucky lady will star opposite, but it’s pretty sweet that True Grit is completed by the famed Coen Brothers.

So this open call already got started with a stop in Little Rock, but casting will also be stopping in Jackson, Mississippi and Oklahoma. Any one else who can’t make it, can send in a taped audition. All of the details related to this open call can be found on TrueGritCasting.com.
Let us know if you’re gonna hit up the casting or maybe send in a tape. We’ve been hearing that a bunch of you really want to get a shot at acting in the pro-world, so this is your shot. I’m Dana Ward at Clevver TV – good luck to you all!!

Do hawks and other birds of prey besides the owl make castings or pellets of bones and fur?

March 14, 2010 - 4:29 am 4 Comments

I have found what I think is an owl pellet, but just want to be sure that it didn’t come out the other end of a different animal!

Yes, Hawks, eagles, and falcons all do! Since birds cannot pick and choose whether they eat bone and feathers/fur or not, they have to be able to cast these items back out. They usually rip their food apart with their beak, holding it with their foot. This leaves the fur and bone inside. They swollow large chunks whole, and let their digestive system work it out…
If it looks like an owl pellet, it’s not a defecate. It could be a pellet from another animal, but came from the mouth, not the "other end"

How do you find out about major movie castings?

March 12, 2010 - 5:38 am 4 Comments

Movies like transformers, i am legend, seven pounds, all those big big movies that are made, how do people find out about the casting in the movies? how do you get to even know how to get there and stuff? who do you contact, where do you go? does your agent find it out for you? what about people who dont have agents? Basically i just want to know how people get into those movies and how do they even find out about it.

Thanks, anything would help to clear it up..

Those sites the other poster is recommending are JUNK!

To get major auditions for film/tv, you NEED a TALENT AGENT. ONLY Agents have access to such auditions,

BUT, to get an agent, you NEED training, GREAT headshots and resume.

Here’s the cliffsnotes version of what you can do to do to get into acting and get an agent:

1.EDUCATE YOURSELF FIRST!

5. Get an Agent

Look up LEGIT agencies here:
http://www.agentassociation.com/

http://www.sag.org/content/find-agent

To get an agent, you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and training from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least. Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won’t see you unless you’re SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Commercial agents are more lenient about that. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading.

You can get an agent multiple ways. Here are a few common ways:
-Mail in an unsealed manilla envelope with a CONCISE coverletter and headshot with the resume stapled on the back. If you have a demoreel include that too.
-Attend a showcase and impress them. By showcase I do not mean scammy conventions like IMTA, IPOP, Proscout, or Best New Talent. I mean legit ones like at Actor Connection, Reel pros, Network Studios, etc.
-Get a referral from a friend who is with the agency that you’re interested in

DON’T
-Email them unless they tell you to. IT’S UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Call unless they tell you to. ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Walk in and ask for a meeting. UNPROFESSIONAL THREE!
-Sign with them if they ask for upfront money, make you take new photos with THEIR photographer, or take THEIR classes. Agent’s ONLY make money when you do. Agents usually make 10% on film/tv and commercials and 20% on commercial print.

How do I find castings for major gigs for models to do music videos & event/parties? How are models…?

March 6, 2010 - 4:00 am 1 Comment

I have a few friends that would like for me to help find castings in L.A. and I was wondering how are models hired without having to audition?

For events/parties you need to be signed with a promotional models agency. Google promotional models + your city to find agencies near you.

Even for promotional models there are often auditions if it’s for a high profile event because they want to make sure you not only have the right look, but also the right personality if you are going to be interacting with people at the event.
