Me and the guys melting some aluminum in a home foundry we set up at the shop. We made some ingates and after i get some good sand and frames made up i’m gonna try and make a hood ornament for the limo. I’ll try to get a video up when I do it.

    @xxnethersxx they are to be melted down later. you make a mold out of sand in the sahpe you want and pour in the aluminum. break away the sand and you have your part…

    That’s pretty cool, once you’ve got them poured in to the molds an there cooled off as ingots. What do you do with them, take them to the recycling been, or do some thing else with them?

    It is neither It is simply scrap wood that we had laying around. The fan is similar to something out of your heater unit in your home… you can use pretty much anything that burns but the fan is necessary to keep the heat up. We put a pyrometer in this and iit was reading as high as 1872 degrees…

    My ingots are also made in a mufins tray and its works also very nice .
    it makes small ingots but that way you can use only the aluminium you nedd dont make to much on excess because it gets weaker if you reuse it several times

    Clay’s right. Saftey first. It’s realy easy to get swept up in the excitement of this craft and forget. I took metals 1 and 2 at my highschool but youtube is where I got the aluminum idea. Good luck and stay safe.

    you can make whatever you wnat with the propep sand mold but i wouldn’t recomend weapons as it is only aluminum although you can melt copper and brasss in a similar fashion.

    i didn’t go to any class… i learned from watching other people do it on youtube. my only suggestion would be to make sure and have a good pair of welding gloves and goggles. safety first… :)
