    One other thing I …
One other thing I wanted to mention is it’s not really a good idea to use building bricks on a furnace. At the temps the inside of the furnace gets, it can cause them to explode if there’s any moisture in them. It’s always best to use firebricks.

    Crucibles can be …
Crucibles can be made of several different materials depending on what your casting. For aluminum you can make them out of steel and it’s probably the cheapest, but after quite a bit of use they start flaking. Schd 40 pipe with 1/4″ plate welded in the bottom. Your commercial crucibles are made of clay graphite and silicon carbide. I use both steel and clay graphite crucibles. The clay graphite can stand higher temps than steel and you have less contamination of the melt than with the steel.
