One other thing I … One other thing I wanted to mention is it’s not really a good idea to use building bricks on a furnace. At the temps the inside of the furnace gets, it can cause them to explode if there’s any moisture in them. It’s always best to use firebricks.
Crucibles can be … Crucibles can be made of several different materials depending on what your casting. For aluminum you can make them out of steel and it’s probably the cheapest, but after quite a bit of use they start flaking. Schd 40 pipe with 1/4″ plate welded in the bottom. Your commercial crucibles are made of clay graphite and silicon carbide. I use both steel and clay graphite crucibles. The clay graphite can stand higher temps than steel and you have less contamination of the melt than with the steel.
aluminum cans just … aluminum cans just have a lot of impurities, you can get good aluminum out of it, just make sure when you pour dont pour in the impurities along with it
