Aluminum Ingots From The $30 Backyard Foundry.
March 9, 2010 - 5:05 pm
After the pour. Aluminum, like any heavy metal will recycle 100% (save the stuff still stuck in the crucible). The ingots are perfectly size for the crucible. Once I get my first foam carving done I can just throw these in and re-melt them.

This was sort of a …
This was sort of a test run. The ingots I made fit well into the crucible so I can re-use them once I get a mold made. I’m planning on doing lost-foam casting once I get the time. As for now, it’s just a nice way to consolidate scrap-aluminum in the meantime.

It’s made of a …
It’s made of a cookie-bar baking pan. I bought it at Wal-Mart for 3 buck. Downside, it was coated in Teflon and gave off some funny looking fumes. I don’t recommend using a mold like this. It’d probably be just as easy and safer to make the ingot molds in a sand box.
